Name:
Physically, Grell is of average male height - she stands at about five foot ten, taller with heels. Her frame is slender, but due to a naturally tiny waist, she doesn't do much to augment her form...she just looks like a small-busted woman. However, should anyone see her without her clothes on, they would not only notice the truth of her gender...but they would notice a number of old scars around her torso, and the fact that her shoulders seemed to sit just a little bit out of their sockets. Old wounds she can no longer remember.
Personality: Grell has a very strange personality - and depending on how well you get to know her, you may never see part of it.
The persona most people will see is flirty and flamboyant. If a person is male and at least a little attractive to her, she will throw herself at them with every line she can think of. She's flashy and displays startling amounts of gall, saying exactly whatever she wants. If she decides that a man is good looking, she will quite literally throw herself at him, regardless of his orientation or reaction.
But one who gets closer to Grell may get to know the other side...the side she shows to very few. At the core, she's really quite a timid person with very little self-confidence, and the flamboyance is her way of camoflauging her real self. She's afraid of being pitied, even if she wants the attention - but her sometimes clumsy and subservient nature makes it all too easy to feel sorry for her when she's down, so she covers up with a constant, strained grin. Somewhere inside, she knows she's pining for someone to be close to...someone who may never come; that frightens her more than anything else. She works by her window for a while every night, waiting and entertaining a recurring fantasy that someday her Romeo will hail her from below and sweep her away.
Unfortunately, it's easy enough to tell that she's got a few screws loose. She has a short and often violent temper, and when upset, a predilection towards sharp implements of stabbing. Also, for reasons uncertain, she has a bizarre affection for said sharp objects...she has a little collection of decorative knives, fancy scissors, and even an antique chainsaw. It doesn't work...but for some reason, that one is her favorite.
History: ((Grell had VERY little history in-canon, so I've written my own for before she became a Reaper. It explains a few character quirks I play her with.))
When Grell Sutcliff was growing up, he was a remarkably unremarkable boy. His parents were very picky, exacting people, consistantly overbearing and occasionally verbally abusive...as a result, his personality became meek and submissive. He was bright, but very clumsy - so as he grew, he focused his talents into singing, because singing required no instrument that he could break.
Finally, when he reached working age, he hit his niche as a music teacher, giving voice instructions to children. His parents died average deaths, but he wasn't particularly moved...that was just the way things were. He mourned, he got on with things.
But then financial problems that his parents had been dealing with fell to him. Just barely he was able to make ends meet by taking more students, but the stress started to wear on the meek Mister Sutcliff. Around that time, he made a decision - that he was finally going to do something for himself. That he was going to be someone else - that he NEEDED to be this other person who had been stifled.
That someone was a very loud, adventurous woman.
From there on, he became a she - and for a while, things were finally looking up. It didn't take long, however, for the students to find out and become uncomfortable...and worse, for the parents to get their kids away from her. This just wasn't something socially acceptable in her circles - in their eyes, it was scandalous, perverse!
This meant that Grell's finances went downhill...it wasn't long before she lost her home. Her options grew slim, and it was hard to find work...until finally, she found an establishment where they would let her sing for paying customers. Something the owners called a "Gentlemen's Club." It was a bit seedy, but...it was a place to stay and earned money for food. There was just one problem.
They hired Grell because they honestly thought that she was an actual woman.
When they found out the truth, they were irate. They took her into one of the rooms where their other girls would service customers, beat her, breaking her shoulders...and then had their way with her until she was dead. "You look so very NICE in red," they said as they cut her up.
It was then that a Reaper came to judge her life...and saw potential. She was offered a second life, a second chance...as a Death God. So that she could be strong, have the power she didn't have before.
She took the offer, and was reborn. Still a woman in a man's body...but with long, vibrant red hair, and a set of sharp, intimidating teeth to accent her nervous grin. But damage from her life before had already been done...her mind worked in ways that they didn't understand. She was erratic - uncontrollable. She illegally modified her Death Scythe into a red chainsaw...and started to disappear for periods of time. Names on the Death List were getting killed out of sequence. Streetwalkers in London. There were murmurs of a human killer, Jack the Ripper...but the truth was found soon enough. There was a human...but they were only half of the Ripper.
Grell was the other half. In a heated battle, the truth was found...and Grell met someone who would forever own her heart. A Demon...a Butler...by the name of Sebastian. He acted repulsed - but she was entranced.
She was arrested by the Death Gods. Beaten, put on probation, kicked around. History would forever repeat itself, it seemed. Grell the Meek would become the Red Reaper, and in turn be rejected.
But if Sebastian was the one to defeat her each time...she was okay with that.
In-Game History: Grell Sutcliff, fashion designer, has thought of herself as a woman for as long as she can remember. She grew up being quite accepted and lived a comfortable life - one which cultured her creativity. She really didn't have much to complain about...maybe boredom, but her behavior with the men of the city makes that easy enough to see.
Her design business is quite well-to-do, with her curiously-all-red lineup being popular with the more daring set. Very few people in Harmony actually KNOW that Grell is physically male. She's very convincing, and with her voice the sort of trill it usually is, there aren't many hints.
